Myanmar spinel hosted in marble is among the country’s most celebrated mineral treasures, formed under high-temperature metamorphic conditions within crystalline limestone deposits. These specimens are prized for their sharp octahedral crystals and vivid colors ranging from ruby red and hot pink to cobalt blue and lavender, often standing out dramatically against the pale white marble matrix. Burmese spinel gained worldwide recognition for its exceptional clarity and saturation, and for centuries many red crystals were mistaken for ruby due to their intense color and brilliance. The contrast between luminous spinel crystals and soft marble matrix makes these pieces especially striking and highly sought after by collectors.

The spinel appears pinkish-red under natural or normal light, but glows a vivid magenta under UV lighting (also known as “black light”). A longwave UV light is recommended for optimal fluorescence.
