Benitoite is a rare barium titanium silicate mineral known for its vivid blue color. First discovered in California in 1907, it was later named the official state gem. This mineral is prized not only for its beauty, but also for its rarity. Benitoite is found almost exclusively in a single location: the Benitoite Gem Mine in San Benito County. Under shortwave UV light, it glows a striking blue, adding to its allure for collectors and gem enthusiasts alike. Benitoite is largely considered to be mined out, with old-stock specimens being the only remaining ones on the market.
