Cuprian smithsonite is a variety of the zinc carbonate mineral smithsonite in which a portion of the zinc is substituted by copper ions. This substitution gives the mineral a distinctive green coloration. In Arizona, cuprian smithsonite has been found in oxidized zones of copper-rich zinc deposits. It typically occurs in botryoidal, globular, or crust-like formations with a vitreous to pearly luster.
