Gitter quartz, also known as lattice quartz, is a variety of quartz characterized by crystals grown in an interlocking pattern, often as epitactic intergrowths with feldspar. The term “Gitter” is derived from the German word for “lattice” or “fence,” aptly describing the mineral’s unique structure. In some instances, the quartz completely replaces the feldspar, resulting in pseudomorphs where the original feldspar’s shape is retained but is now composed entirely of quartz.
