While wavellite is most commonly found in shades of pale yellow, green, olive, and brown, exceptionally rare specimens display vivid blue coloration, making them among the most sought-after examples of the species. With a silky to vitreous luster, Arkansas wavellite forms in aluminum-rich sedimentary rocks, where it develops as a secondary mineral in fractures and cavities. The state is considered the world’s premier locality for wavellite, producing specimens prized by collectors for their well-defined crystal habits, exceptional aesthetics, and, in the rarest cases, their remarkable blue color.
