Chlorophane is a rare and highly prized variety of fluorite known for its remarkable luminescent properties. Chemically, it is fluorite which contains trace amounts of rare earth elements such as cerium or europium, which act as activators for its fluorescence and phosphorescence. Under ultraviolet light, chlorophane typically glows brightly, with some specimens exhibiting long-lasting phosphorescence, continuing to emit light for minutes after the UV source is removed. This effect is best observed in complete darkness.
