Cobaltoan calcite, also known as cobalto calcite, is a pink to deep magenta variety of calcite colored by the substitution of cobalt ions in the calcite crystal structure. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is known for producing brilliantly colored, and lustrous crystals that are prized by collectors. Well-formed cobaltoan calcite with any clarity is extremely rare! This piece features bisebeeite as baby blue inclusions in the calcite, along with a more saturated crust of blue chrysocolla on the outside- a very unique and eye catching combination.
