Golden selenite from Manitoba is a striking variety of selenite characterized by its warm, honey gold to amber tones. It forms in rosette-like clusters, often called “gypsum roses” or “selenite rosettes.” These formations consist of multiple blade shaped crystals radiating outward from a central point, creating a flower-like appearance. These highly sought after selenites are from an old collection that we recently acquired, they were collected by a geologist in the 80’s from the classic Canadian locality. Red River selenite fluoresces under both shortwave and longwave UV light. It displays phosphorescence for a short period after the UV light is turned off.
