Smoky quartz from Namibia’s Erongo Mountains is highly regarded for its attractive smoky coloration, sharp crystal forms, and unusual associations with other classic pegmatite minerals. In this striking combination, smoky quartz and black tourmaline, or schorl, are intimately intergrown, with the dark, lustrous tourmaline crystals incorporated throughout and alongside the smoky quartz. The contrasting translucent brown quartz and deep black schorl create a particularly dramatic and sculptural combination. The Erongo Mountains are considered a world-class locality for schorl and quartz.
