Wavellite from Arkansas is a classic phosphate mineral best known for its striking radial crystal clusters that form rounded, starburst-like sprays. These aggregates are typically composed of slender, acicular crystals that radiate outward from a central point, giving specimens a highly sculptural appearance. Colors range from pale yellow and green to olive, brown, and occasionally bluish hues, often with a silky to vitreous luster. Arkansas wavellite forms in aluminum-rich sedimentary rocks, where it develops as a secondary mineral in fractures and cavities. The state is considered the world’s most important locality for wavellite, producing specimens prized by collectors for their well-defined crystal habits and aesthetic balance between delicacy and structure.
