Goshenite is the colorless to near-colorless variety of beryl, a beryllium aluminum silicate mineral that also occurs as emerald, aquamarine, and morganite. Namibian goshenite is known for its high transparency and well-developed crystal forms. Crystals from the Erongo Mountains commonly occur as prismatic, well-terminated specimens with excellent clarity and vitreous luster. Some specimens contain contrasting crystals of fluorite, which can occur in translucent to opaque cubic or massive forms alongside the goshenite. The combination of colorless beryl and fluorite creates an appealing contrast while highlighting the distinct crystal habits and natural mineral associations of the specimen.
