Fibrous brochantite from Sierra Gorda, Antofagasta Region, Chile, is a beautiful example of secondary copper mineralization from one of northern Chile's mineral-rich districts. This copper sulfate hydroxide is particularly attractive in its blue-green coloration, forming delicate, densely packed acicular to fibrous crystal aggregates. This specimen, collected in 2005, features an especially fine, fuzzy appearance, with countless slender needles creating a soft, almost velvety surface. Its excellent chatoyancy produces a striking silky, shifting sheen as light moves across the fibres, giving the specimen considerable visual depth and appeal. Brochantite from the Sierra Gorda district is documented in several fibrous and acicular forms, making this an especially attractive example of its distinctive crystal habit.
