Gem silica and chrysocolla are typically found in copper ore deposit veins, where they can take on a massive, crusted, or botryoidal form. Gem silica (also known as chrysocolla chalcedony) is the gemmy form of chrysocolla with quartz, and it is exceptionally more rare than its constituent components. Silica Chrysocolla forms when Chrysocolla is deposited in a silica-rich environment, creating a composite mineral where the Chrysocolla provides the color and the silica offers a robust, and glossy surface texture.
