Cuprian barite (baryte) from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, particularly from the Katanga Copperbelt, consists of well-developed tabular to lamellar crystals of barium sulfate (BaSO₄) containing trace amounts of copper. These specimens commonly exhibit a pale green hue, ranging from faint mint to soft seafoam tones, and have a high specific gravity, reflecting barite’s characteristic density. The green coloration is attributed to copper incorporation, and is often accompanied by small inclusions or surface associations of malachite, which may appear as deeper green patches or coatings.
