Barite (baryte) from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, particularly from the Katanga Copperbelt, consists of well-developed tabular to lamellar crystals of barium sulfate (BaSO₄). These specimens have a high specific gravity, reflecting barite’s characteristic density. These barite crystals are often accompanied by the antimony-bearing mineral stibnite (Sb₂S₃), which appears as metallic, silvery-gray crystals.
