Each specimen showcases the distinct characteristics that make Moldavite so special: You’ll find a beautiful variety in texture and tone - from smooth, glassy surfaces to rich, velvety finishes, all in varying shades of green to green-brown. No two are alike! Each crystal has its own unique form and naturally etched surface detail. These authentic tektites were sourced directly from the Czech Republic, the only known origin of true Moldavite.

**A Grade** Moldavite features well-terminated formations in a range of natural shapes, green shades, and surface textures. Minor abrasions may be present due to the mining and handling process, but overall these pieces retain excellent structure and aesthetic appeal.

**B Grade** Moldavite may show more noticeable imperfections such as larger surface fractures, pale or darker coloration, or flat edges resulting from previous cuttings. These pieces are still genuine but have more visible signs of wear or processing.

Gems range from 5mm - 25mm on average. An exact measurement guide cannot be provided, because moldavite is sold by weight. Please note that the smaller sizes are very petite, we would recommend checking what 5mm - 10mm looks like on a ruler if you are purchasing any sizes between 0.1 - 0.7 grams, just to give you a better idea of the measurements.

Moldavite appears dark on a solid surface (see photos on flat hand) and reveals its color when backlit with bright lighting. Move your specimen into the light to watch those colors pop!

Moldavite is a rare form of natural glass, classified as a tektite, formed approximately 15 million years ago by the high energy impact of a meteorite in what is now the Czech Republic. The intense heat and pressure from the impact caused terrestrial silica rich materials to be ejected into the atmosphere, where they cooled and solidified into aerodynamic shapes before falling back to Earth. Moldavite is primarily composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) with varying amounts of aluminum oxide and trace elements that give it its characteristic green hue.

Since late 2020, the Moldavite market has shifted dramatically, with both quality and quantity becoming increasingly limited. Ongoing challenges like government regulations, unauthorized mining, and seasonal mining limitations in the Czech Republic have made sourcing genuine Moldavite much more difficult. The future of its availability remains uncertain, and there are growing concern across the industry regarding the flooding of inauthentic materials on the market.

Please note that we do NOT provide certificates of authenticity with our moldavite. A legitimate certificate from a gemological institution costs $50 - $100 per individual stone, they are never granted for batches. We advise our customers to be extremely cautious when being offered certificates of authenticity - they are usually a fake gimmick, especially when it comes to moldavite.
