Hyalite opal from Namibia is a translucent to white variety of opal prized for its exceptional glassy lustre and remarkable fluorescence. Under shortwave UV light, these specimens emit an intense neon green glow, making them some of the most visually striking fluorescent minerals. Select pieces also display the rare phenomenon of daylight fluorescence, appearing yellow even in natural sunlight due to their strong response to ultraviolet wavelengths present in daylight a highly unusual property found in only a small number of minerals. For the most vivid fluorescence, hyalite opal is best viewed in a dark room under shortwave (255 nm) UV light.
