Indicolite is the blue to blue-green variety of elbaite tourmaline, prized for its rich saturation and exceptional transparency. Specimens from the Paprok region of Nuristan Province are among the world’s finest, displaying vibrant hues ranging from icy sky blue to deep teal and intense indigo. Formed within complex granitic pegmatites of the Hindu Kush Mountains during the final stages of crystallization, these crystals commonly occur alongside quartz, feldspar, cleavelandite, lepidolite, and occasional gem-quality spodumene. Paprok indicolite is especially sought after for its sharp crystal morphology, outstanding clarity, and vivid coloration, with some specimens exhibiting subtle color zoning or transitions into green tourmaline. Their rarity, aesthetic appeal, and world-class quality have established Paprok as one of the premier localities for collector-grade blue elbaite tourmaline.
