Kammererite is a chromium-bearing member of the Clinochlore group. The color of the mineral can vary from dark red to purple and violet, depending on the amount of chromium present. It was first discovered and classified in 1851 and is named in honour of the Russian chemist and geologist August Alexander Kämmerer. Material from this locality often occurs within a pale green serpentine matrix, creating an interesting contrast of the two colors.
