Ludlamite from Idaho is a rare and visually striking phosphate mineral, prized by collectors for its deep green color and glassy luster. Chemically known as a hydrated iron phosphate, ludlamite forms in oxidized zones of iron-rich ore deposits, often alongside minerals like vivianite and strengite. These specimens are valued not only for their rich emerald to olive-green hues, but also for their relative scarcity in well-formed crystals. Idaho ludlamite is especially sought after because it represents one of the few notable North American sources of this mineral, making it a distinctive addition to mineral collections.
