Malachite after azurite from the Tsumeb Mine in Namibia is prized for its rich green coloration and exceptionally well-preserved pseudomorphic crystal forms. These specimens formed in the oxidized zones of the Tsumeb polymetallic deposit, where malachite replaced earlier azurite while preserving the external shapes of the original crystals. The replacement can produce remarkably sharp, lustrous or finely fibrous malachite pseudomorphs. Tsumeb is particularly renowned for its abundant and diverse secondary copper minerals, and its malachite pseudomorphs after azurite are among the deposit’s classic and highly collectible mineral forms.
