Grape agate is a botryoidal form of chalcedony, which is a microcrystalline variety of quartz. It forms as clusters of small, spherical formations that are typically 2–10 millimeters in diameter. The purple color results from traces of iron or other metal ions within its structure. Mostly sourced from Mamuju in West Sulawesi, Indonesia, grape agate is valued by mineral collectors for its unusual morphology and delicate formations.
