Rhodochrosite from the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, USA is one of the most famous and highly prized occurrences of the species, known for its intense raspberry-pink to deep red coloration and excellent crystal form. Mined from hydrothermal veins in a historic silver district, it commonly forms sharp rhombohedral crystals as well as rare stalactitic and banded aggregates with vivid zoning. Limited production and the eventual exhaustion of the richest pockets have made Sweet Home rhodochrosite especially rare and highly collectible today. Photos show specimen with backlighting.
