Pink smithsonite from the famed Tsumeb Mine in Namibia is especially prized for its delicate to vivid pink coloration, lustrous surfaces, and rhombohedral crystals. Tsumeb is renowned for producing exceptionally well-formed smithsonite in a remarkable range of colors and habits, with pink material among its most classic and collectible varieties. The pink coloration is associated with trace-element substitutions within the smithsonite structure, particularly cobalt in many classic specimens, although manganese and other elements have also been documented in Tsumeb material. Unlike the more commonly encountered rounded or curved forms, this specimen features sharply defined rhombohedral crystals, showcasing the mineral's distinctive crystallographic form with excellent clarity of habit. Some specimens also display striking internal reflections and an almost gem-like appearance. With its low hardness, high zinc content, and exceptional variety of colors and crystal habits, Tsumeb smithsonite remains one of the most celebrated mineral species from this world-famous locality.
