Smoky quartz from Mount Malosa, Malawi, is known for its sharp, well-formed crystals and deep, translucent brown coloration caused by natural radiation affecting trace aluminum in the crystal lattice. These crystals often occur in geodic cavities within syenite pegmatites, a unique geological setting that also hosts minerals like aegirine, arfvedsonite, and orthoclase. Mount Malosa smoky quartz can appear as isolated crystals or clusters, frequently with high luster and excellent transparency. This specimen features aegirine, which appears as slender, dark green crystals on the smoky quartz surface.
