Torbernite is a hydrated copper phosphate mineral composed of Cu, U, phosphorus, oxygen, and hydrogen. It crystallizes in the tetragonal system and typically forms thin to thick, tabular crystals with perfect micaceous cleavage. Its color ranges from emerald-green and grass-green to leek, siskin, and apple green, and it can display pearly luster on cleavage surfaces. Torbernite commonly occurs as square or octagonal tabular crystals, as well as foliated, scaly, or subparallel aggregates, with its vivid green color and distinctive platy habit making it an especially recognizable mineral.
